It's a hair splitting issue. Over a thatch of hair above the upper lip, that is. John Abraham essays a cop in Vipul Shah's untitled venture, a remake of the Tamil winner 'Kaakha Kaakha'. The flick centres around a posse of police officers, all experts in battling organized crime.
And in keeping with the macho and scruffy 'look' required, Johnny Boy has been asked to show up with a stubble and… moustache.
Stubble's fine, avers J. Abbs who did sport it to gud effect in 'Jism'. The moustache, however, is a sore factor as Johnny Boy feels that he won't be able to pull it off! Meanwhile, JA has been working out to bulk up and display a more 'tougher' look.
Incidentally, Surya and Venkatesh, both sported whiskers in the Tamil and Telugu versions, respectively.
As the flick sets to roll in May, the hunky star needs to make up his starry mind. States Shah in a tabloid chat, "We are having a look test soon and will finalise the 'look' after that."
Quite a prickly issue. Hah, quite so.

Actress Kangna Ranaut has a screen image that borders on serious and tragic roles. In fact at one time the media was ready to dub her as the new tragedy queen, in the late Meena Kumari mould after a number of roles, especially post GANGSTER and WOH LAMHE.
However, the actress is all set to break the shackles and the first project is going to be Anees Bazmee's NO PROBLEM, where she will be seen in a comic role. In the film Kangna will also be dancing to a Punjabi item number composed by Pritam and choreographed by Chinni Prakash. The attempt will be to make Kangna dance and shake it Shakira 'ishtyle'!

Ram Gopal Varma is back to doing what he does best. The filmmaker is busy readying the plot of his upcoming gangster film, a subject that no one can attempt better than him.Ram Gopal is active on two fronts at the moment. While his horror film PHOONK 2 is all set to unleash its scare factor, the filmmaker is secretly readying his gangster film which has been titled DEPARTMENT.
Sharing details of his films exclusively, the filmmaker says, "DEPARTMENT will explore the long spoken about subject between police and the underworld. The nexus has been attempted in many films but not as convincingly and as real as DEPARTMENT dares to do. I'm still getting the script ready and the star will be decided soon."
With this film, RGV will return to gangster genre after making highly successful ones earlier like SATYA and COMPANY. Now, that the master is getting ready with his most loved subject, let's expect fireworks in the making.

'It's too early to speak about 'Saat Khoon Maaf' but it will be a very unique film for sure,' Priyanka told reporters here Tuesday after launching the denim brand Levi's Change your World campaign at Grand Hyatt hotel.
Commenting upon the reports that she rejected Hollywood offers for 'Saat Khoon Maaf', she said: 'I can associate only with the film I am committed to and I was committed to Vishal Bharadwaj....'
Priyanka was more than happy to collaborate with Bharadwaj again after 'Kaminey'.
'To work with Vishal again is a great opportunity because I think he is one of India's most celebrated filmmakers. He has shown confidence in me, so I feel a bit nervous and anxious as well.'
Based on Ruskin Bond's story 'Susanna's Seven Husbands' about a femme fatale who bumps off her seven spouses, 'Saat Khoon Maaf' also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan.
Priyanka, who replaces actor Akshay Kumar as a brand ambassador of Levi's and even as the host of the reality show 'Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi'', describes it as a sheer coincidence.
'I would say it's a complete coincidence,' said Priyanka who is looking forward to hosting the adventure reality show. 'I am very excited about 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' because it's a perfect show for me. I have seen its last two seasons. It was one of my favourite shows. It would be so much fun to actually host the show.'

'I'm NOT directing anything right now guys! Not equipped to do so! Maybe quite a few years from now. In the meantime happy in front of the camera,' she wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Reports suggested that Lara was planning to direct an independent film and has been working on the script for two years. The film was said to go on floors by July.
Meanwhile Lara is busy promoting her new film 'Housefull' that also stars Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Arjun Rampal.
The film is about a man named Arush played by Akshay Kumar who gets caught in crazy situations all because he has a deep secret - he has three wives. It will release April 30.

Popular South Indian actress Rambha will marry Canada-based businessman Indhiran Padmanathan on April 8 in Tirupathi. The ceremony is planned as a complete family affair and a grand reception will be held in Chennai on April 11. A grand engagement party was held by Rambha at Hotel Park Sheraton in Chennai on January 27. The latest buzz is that the actress has decided to continue acting after her marriage. "I will continue my profession till I feel bored. After that, I will help Indiran in his business. But I have made a decision to act only in meaningful roles. The films I accept henceforth should add value to my career," she said. On her wedding plans, she said, "The marriage will take place in Tirupathi on April 8. We have planned a grand reception at Rani Meyyammai Hall in Chennai on April 11. We will then leave for New Zealand for our honeymoon." Rambha aka Vijaya Lakshmi is a popular Indian actress who has enacted many successful roles in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada, Bengali and Bhojpuri films.

Nandana: How can I justify censoring myself?
How do you avoid a superiority complex when you have a dad who is invited by Barack Obama for dinner?
I’m tremendously proud of both my parents, but my sense of self-worth is entirely independent of them both. I’ve never believed in reflected glory — it’s always been a priority for me to make my own way. Since childhood, I’ve been a pretty confident girl and willing to take chances. I’m sure both of them had a lot to do with instilling that courage and self-assurance in me. But I’m not the kind of person who would ever have a superiority complex.
Considering that your Rang Rasiya and another film — Makara Manju — deal with the life of Raja Ravi Varma, does competition bother you?
Not at all. I know that Rang Rasiya is extraordinary and absolutely unlike any other film. Secondly, I’ve always been very positive as a person — it takes a lot for me to feel insecure. I am vulnerable only when it comes to the people I love. Nothing else in the world — neither the competition nor the glitz — is important enough to get stressed, is it?
Recently, an article mentioned that Kareena Kapoor had wanted the lovemaking scenes from Kurbaan deleted from the print that was meant for her mom. Did you ever harbour such thoughts about the daring scenes of yours from Rang Rasiya?
Not even for a second did I feel that way. I’m proud of Ketan Mehta’s important and outstanding film, and loved playing Sugandha. But yes, there is one moment in the film in which the muse inspires the artist by posing for him. I am quite a private and shy girl and so, making the decision to accept the role was difficult. In fact, the biggest help in making that decision came from my family — both my parents felt that the scene in question is the emotional and political heart of the story (the Censor Board agreed!) and that the film would not be true to itself without it. In a film dealing with censorship, how can I justify censoring myself? So, by the time I did the scene, I was fully in character. I was not the shy girl Nandana, but the iconoclast Sugandha, who broke all the rules of her time by the sheer power of her extraordinary courage and conviction. Why would I wish to hide any aspect of Sugandha’s personality?

New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) Next year, 2011, is going to be the year of sequels in Bollywood with as many as five blockbusters getting ready with the next instalment of their stories -- 'Race 2', 'Dhoom 3', 'Wanted 2', 'Partner 2' and 'Don 2'. Friday Mar 26 8:10 AM
Like the 2008 hit action 'Race', 'Race 2' is also directed by Abbas-Mustan and produced under the Tips Films banner. The original, which explored themes of sibling rivalry, betrayal and passion, starred Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif in pivotal roles.
Except Bipasha Basu, the directors plan to retain the same cast for the sequel. It was reported that Bipasha would be replaced by another actress, although nothing is official at the moment.
The other sequel in the works is 'Partner 2'. The original starring Govinda, Salman Khan, Katrina and Lara Dutta released in 2007.
'Partner 2' was supposed to release this year, but the shooting dates got postponed till 2011. The sequel will retain its original cast.
Boney Kapoor, producer of the Salman Khan-starrer 'Wanted', is also planning to launch the film's second part next year.
'Wanted', a remake of Telugu film 'Pokiri', was directed by southern dancing star Prabhu Deva and also starred Ayesha Takia.
The third instalment of action film 'Dhoom' will also make an appearance next year. While 'Dhoom' released in 2004, 'Dhoom 2' hit screens in 2006. Now, after a gap of five years, 'Dhoom 3' is expected to release in 2011.
It was reported that Aditya Chopra will himself direct 'Dhoom 3', which will have some alterations in the star cast.
Later in the year releases 'Don 2', a sequel to Farhan Akhtar's remake of the 1978 film 'Don' (2006).
The crime thriller, directed, co-written and co-produced by Farhan Akhtar, will star Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Ishaa Koppikar, Boman Irani and Om Puri all reprising their roles from the previous film.
Going by the list, it seems that audiences will have only sequels to choose from the plate in 2011.

'To play Snehamoy, I needed an actor who would give me 200 percent,' Sen, who gets back to direction after '15 Park Avenue', told IANS in an interview.
'What is very difficult about Snehamoy's character is that he is a humdrum little man and yet he has something extremely extraordinary in that humdrum life. He has a Japanese wife whom he has never met. The bizarreness of the whole premise is utterly charming. It was difficult to trust anyone with that character except Rahul.'
After 'Mr. & Mrs. Iyer' (2002) and '15 Park Avenue' (2005), this is Sen's third film in a row with Rahul.
'You know what happens... a kind of understanding establishes and then it becomes very easy to work with that same actor. Many directors have done this. Satyajit Ray had used Soumitra Chatterjee in so many films,' she said.
'The Japanese Wife', based on a book by Kunal Basu, revolves around Snehamoy, a schoolteacher in the interiors of Sundarbans, West Bengal, and Migaya (Chigusa Takaku). They start off as pen pals, fall in love and even get married through letters. They don't meet each other even through 15 years of marriage.
Prior to 'The Japanese Wife', the story of every film the award-wining director had directed was her own.
'See, I would not be able to do anyone's story because I have always done film on my own story. In this case Kunal Basu and me... our mindset was similar. When I read the story, I used to often discuss it with Kunal. I used to send him my script at certain points. We talked over phone, exchanged SMSes, etc.
'I found it very easy to remain true to his story while I was fleshing it out. The film, of course, has its nuances. For instance, he didn't give the widow (played by Raima Sen in the film) a name in his story - as if it was a trivial character. In the film, I have given her a name and importance to her character too,' said Sen.
Sen's story has some resemblance to Anjan Dutta's Bengali play 'Priyo Bondu', where two classmates start communicating through letters. They continue even when they are middle-aged. In due course, they realise they are in love with each other but prefer to maintain the relationship over letters.
Asked to comment on that, she said: 'I have also heard 'Priyo Bondhu'. There they have met each other. In 'The Japanese Wife', they don't meet until the end of the story.'
Though she has earlier acted in her directorial ventures like 'Paroma' and 'Paromitar Ek Din', Sen now finds it difficult. And that is why, she said, she roped in Moushumi Chatterjee to play Maashi in the 'The Japanese Wife'.
'You know it's too much trouble directing and acting in the same film. Even in 'Iti Mrinalini', I have acted. But here I thought Moushumi is far more suitable than me.
'Moushumi has a very good sense of timing that makes her a very good actor also. Her eyes sparkle all the time. I wanted someone very vibrant and she was the only person I could think of. Where Rahul and Raima are very shy, don't talk too much, she is like a contrast to all of them,' she added.
Sen gave instructions to Japanese actress Chigusa Takaku through an interpreter.
'She can't speak a word of English so I directed her through interpreters. I don't know Japanese. Even when she came India for shooting, we had to keep interpreters for her. A girl studying Japanese in Santiniketan used to stay with her like a shadow. I was scared... what if she falls sick in the middle of the night, she won't be able to convey that to anyone.'

Legendary actor Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruti Haasan's Kollywood debut opposite reigning actor Suriya in a film to be directed by talented A.R. Murugadoss is one of the major happenings in the South Indian film industry these days! While the shooting of this yet-to-be-titled flick, being simultaneously made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil, is all set to begin this week, we hear that the makers' original choice in the female lead of the film was Asin, but they finally chose Shruti Haasan instead of Asin as reportedly Shruti Haasan has a face which is more suited for Bollywood. To be produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, this untitled film will have music by Harris Jayaraj. Ravi K. Chandran will be the cameraman. More details including the title, shooting schedule, cast and crew are awaited.
